Making this homemade syrup recipe at home is the perfect way to save money and eat less preservatives all while still enjoying that rich flavor with your favorite drinks. This is a great addition to add to your repertoire of homemade recipes.

Tips For Making Brown Sugar Syrup
- You don’t need to simmer water before adding brown sugar. This just speeds up the process. Feel free to throw them both in the pan at the same time.
- Add other flavors to the syrup for more fun. Try cinnnamon, pumpkin spice, maple syrup, herbs, or even fruit!
- For a smaller portion, this recipe can easily be halved.
- For a larger portion, this recipe can easily be doubled or tripled.
- If you are watching your sugar intake, only add in 1 cup of brown sugar. If you really want that sweet taste, add in 2 cups.
- Store this recipe in a fliptop glass bottle for convenient pouring.
- After the sugar dissolves, if you leave it on the stove for an extra minute or two, you will end up with a more thick syrup.
Did you know this recipe can be frozen?!
Freeze any leftover syrup you don’t use in a few weeks in individual portions. Simple ice cube trays make this really easy to do.
Fun idea: Freeze these in ice cube form for homemade iced coffees. It’s so yummy!
Brown Sugar
It does not matter whether you use light brown sugar or dark brown sugar. Did you know the only difference between the two is the amount of molasses added? In fact, the next time you run out of brown sugar, you can make that rich brown sugar flavor easily at home as long as you have white sugar and molasses on hand.
When making any recipe, dark brown sugar will taste more sweet than light brown sugar because of the higher molasses content.
What about a normal simple syrup?
You can make a classic simple syrup recipe by simply replacing the brown sugar with white sugar. Simple syrup recipes are very easy to customize.
