The Best Ever Cast Iron Brussel Sprouts

Don’t give up on these just yet. They are so full of vitamins and nutrients, such as Vitamin K and Vitamin C, that this healthy side dish needs to make its way into your regular dinners.
Ingredients Needed for Cast Iron Brussel Sprouts
- 1 pound of brussels sprouts – trimmed and cut
- 3 tbsp olive oil or lard – Lard adds more flavor
- 1 tsp salt
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp butter
- any extra toppings you might choose – red pepper flakes, maple syrup, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, or bacon bits
Before Cooking
- Make sure you wash your fresh brussels sprouts to remove any dirt.
- Trim the brussel sprouts. Cut off the tough end and remove any yellow leaves that may be on the outside.
- Cut brussel sprouts in half, long ways. From the trimmed end to the tip.

How to Make Cast Iron Brussel Sprouts
Heat up a cast-iron pan over medium-high heat and preheat oven to 400 degrees F.
Add lard or olive oil. Allow to heat up for 2-4 minutes.
Add in brussel sprouts, cut side down in a single layer. Add about 1/2 tbsp salt here.
Cook until caramelized into a nice golden brown, about 3-4 minutes.
Transfer cast iron skillet to the oven. Bake until fork tender, about 15 minutes.
Turn off the heat and add garlic and salt. Mix well.
Add butter and stir.
Top with any extra ingredients if you would like. Things like red pepper flakes, maple syrup, parmesan cheese, balsamic vinegar, or bacon bits are all great additions!

How to Store Leftovers
Place any leftovers in an airtight container and place in the refrigerator. Eat within 4-5 days. Reheat on stove in a cast-iron skillet.
