About Me
Hello! I’m Amber. I am the gal behind 1898 Mama.
1898 Mama was started because of my lifestyle. It started out with me learning how to cook. A decade ago, I had no clue how to cook. I learned about nutrition and where food comes from. I learned about the importance of soil health and the food grown in the soil. Today, I now cook most of our food from scratch.
1898 Mama evolved into recipes, gardening, preserving our own food, homeschooling our children, and basically just trying to live like they did in 1898….just with the benefits of electricity!

But First…
Before we go into meeting each other, let’s make sure we can always find each other! This world is crazy and nobody knows what will end up happening with social media. But, as long as I have this website, I’m going to be sharing and teaching all I can to you! Make sure you don’t miss it by joining my email list. When you join, you get free recipes and how-to’s.
My husband, Rusty, and I moved to his family’s land (which they bought in 1898) in South Dakota in 2014. We have six children, ages 10 and under. We love the country, homesteading life. So consequently, we spend most of our time gardening, preserving, and trying to improve the soil surrounding us.
I homeschool our children. However, I’m pretty much learning everything right along with them.
Putting homemade meals onto the table is important to me. Sharing from scratch recipes and teaching others how to cook with the food that they grow is a joy to me.
I am obsessed with health. Fitness, whole food, natural remedies. All of it.
Music makes my soul very happy. As a result, if you walk into my house, music will probably be playing.
Thank you so much for stopping by 1898 Mama! I hope you’ll continue to come back and hang out!
