Ingredients Needed
Cereal
- 2 1/2 cups flour: all purpose flour or if you grind your own flour, use half all purpose and half soft wheat berries
- 8 tbsp. butter: cold, keep in fridge until needed or you can substitute coconut oil
- 1/2 tsp salt: preferably real salt
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 tbsp sugar: granulated sugar, honey, or maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 8-10 tbsp water: cold
Topping
- 4 tbsp melted butter or substitute with melted coconut oil
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1 tbsp cinnamon
How to Make Homemade Cinnamon Toast Crunch
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Combine the dry ingredients of flour, salt, cinnamon, and sugar.
Shred cold butter into dry mixture using a cheese grater.
Add the vanilla and 2 tbsp of water.
Mix until the dough comes together and forms a ball. Adding 1/2-1 tbsp of water at a time if more is needed.
Divide ball in fourths. This makes it easier to work with.
Roll dough out as thin as possible into a large rectangle. When you think it’s thin enough, go thinner. About 1/8′ thick.
Transfer dough to a sheet of parchment paper and brush dough with melted butter.
Generously cover the dough with the sugar topping mix.
Using a pizza cutter, cut into small squares.
Transfer sheets of parchment paper with cereal on them onto a large baking sheet or cookie sheet.
Repeat with remaining dough.
Place cookie sheets into oven and bake for 20 minutes. Using a bench scraper, separate the small squares from each other and place back in oven.
Bake for another 5-10 minutes or until golden brown. Let cool completely before storing in an airtight container.
