What is life like when you are 13 months old? Here is a 13 month old daily schedule. The day I am writing this post, my fifth baby is turning 13 months old. This schedule has been his exact same schedule for a few months now. Only one thing has changed in the last week. Well, two things, but they are connected.
Key Elements of a 13 month old daily schedule
My 13 month old is still on a 2 nap schedule. Honestly, that second nap is not being given up until the very last minute. If your on a one nap schedule, just replace nap one with play. A 13 month old should be sleeping 12 hours through the night and have a few hours of nap time in the day. Mine has a one hour nap and a 1.5-2 hour nap.
How is your 13 month old doing with food? We do baby led weaning so he’s been eating real food for about 7 months now. If you are still doing purees though, I recommend adding in some real food now.
Oh the sleep. This is the thing that has changed. Which led to another change. We started sleep training. Gasp! I know, I know. Some of you are totally judging me right now and that’s okay. However, once this kid hit the 4-month sleep regression, he just got worse and worse. When I say he was waking up 1-2 times an hour every night, I am not exaggerating. I am over it. Well, sleep training worked. Within a few nights he was sleeping through the night. It’s now been over a week. Here’s the part that breaks my heart…are you ready? He no longer nurses. Not even during the day. He wants nothing to do with it. So, here we are now. Three days without breast milk. He seems okay with it. I do not.
Are you taking the time to have conversations with your baby? What about teaching him what things are? As of right now, my 13-month-old cat say dad, mom, cat, and Alexa. (Well, alexa doesn’t come out clear at all, but the only time he makes this noise is when he is trying to get Alexa to play music.)
If you aren’t signing with your baby, now is the perfect time to start! I started learning ASL with my kids a few years ago using My Signing Time and it is one of the greatest things I have done. Also, if I know the Spanish word, I will say the object in English while signing, then say it in Spanish, then repeat in English with sign.
Play is the biggest way for your baby to learn. Above all, do this all day long! Add in some music and dance parties with your baby and you will be set! Here are some simple things to do at home with your toddler that can inspire you if you are in a play rut.
13 month old daily schedule
7:00am – Wake up time. This actually is anywhere from 6:45-7:00. If he is not up by 7, I will go in and get him. Then, we come downstairs.
7:00-7:10 We get a drink of water, change diaper, say good morning to everyone, and then start playing. This play usually involves taking everything out of the kitchen drawers that he can reach.
7:10am- Breakfast or banana while I make breakfast
7:30am- Get dressed and brush teeth.
7:35-9:15am – Play time. Totally unstructured. No rhyme or reason here. In other words, make lots of messes.
9:15-10:15 – Nap 1. A lot of people like to get down to a one nap a day sleep schedule at this age. However, I am not one of those people. I like my morning break.
1:00-3:00 Naptime 2
3:20-6:00 More play.
6:30 Bath (if he got really messy at dinner), diaper, lotion, and lastly pajamas on
6:50 Play for a few more minutes, then read a book (which is just him practicing turning the pages while I make up words to the story)
7:00 In crib, asleep within minutes.
This is a pretty normal day for us. If we have plans, I try to work around those so that I will be driving during his naptime. We have a long commute when we need to go anywhere so to keep him awake during the drive is not really an option.
This is the age where things are going to start to change. No longer are the days of baby. Now, we have grown people (well, basically) that want to do things themselves and be a part of everything. It can get tough. Especially, if you are a stay at home mom. That is the hardest job in the entire world. It’s also the most important job in the entire world. You can do it, even on the real bad days.
